Handmade Hoop Earrings & Front-Facing Hoops
I love the simplicity of a circle. It's such a basic shape, but there are endless ways to interpret it in jewelry. Change the proportions, add texture, introduce a gemstone, or turn the circle to face a different direction, and suddenly you have something entirely new.
My handmade hoop earrings explore all those possibilities, from classic hoops that curve around the ear to front-facing circles, swinging hoops, and designs that fall somewhere in between.
A Different Way to Wear a Hoop
When most people think of hoop earrings, they picture a circle that hangs perpendicular to the face. I love those traditional designs, but I'm also drawn to front-facing hoops, where the circular shape is visible from the front.
That simple change in orientation creates a completely different look. It opens up opportunities to play with negative space, interesting metal textures, gemstones, and the relationship between the earring and the face.
I also enjoy making hoop-inspired earrings with movement. Some swing and catch the light as you move, while others have a more structured, sculptural feel.
Handmade with Attention to Detail
I'm Abby Meadows, the metalsmith behind Mettle by Abby, and I create my earrings in Woodstock, Georgia, using traditional metalsmithing techniques, solid 14k gold, Argentium sterling silver, and natural gemstones.
I love working with shape and proportion, and hoops give me plenty of room to experiment. Some designs are clean and understated, while others feature hammered textures, unusual forms, or colorful gemstones.
Comfort, balance, and how an earring actually wears are just as important to me as the design itself.
